晚近世界历史目睹了六场重大的革命，此即英国光荣革命、美国独立建国、法国大革命、苏俄共产革命和中国的长程革命建国运动，以及眼下正在发生、尚未完结的“阿拉伯之春”。凡此革命旨趣各异，进路不同，目标和归宿亦且多有差别。它们发生于近代历史进程之中，并且构成了近代人类历史中最为宏大的景象，不仅基于不同的政治理念和启蒙理性，塑造出多歧的政治格局，而且，在政体与权威、国家与社会、“革命精神”和“现代情绪”之间展现出纷纭歧异的性格，不约而同地提出了如何经由优良政体承载国家理性和立宪建国的现代难题，需要汉语思想进行深度思考和系统回应。

有鉴于此，清华大学法政哲学研究中心拟于2012年10月20－22日，在清华大学召开“革命的逻辑：政道与治道”国际学术研讨会，期于现代历史视野和全球格局中，于历史文化、社会变迁、法律和政治建构诸端，对于上述革命进行具有历史深度的理论性研讨。主要拟议的论题包括但不限于下列八项：

・ “解放”和“自由”的不同旨趣及其内在关系，“以自由立国”的立宪含义，以及公共空间与公民自由的政体意义；

・ 世俗化、理性化/合理化与正当性的内在关联，及其对于现代政治的影响；

・ 权威与权力、主权与政权的内在结构，以及它们与人权的关系，国家主权与人的自主性之间的紧张如何通过现代政治加以消解；

・ 国家建构进程中的启蒙理性与国家理性、价值理性与功利理性的关系，以及自由主义与民族主义在此进程中的各自位置；

・ 帝国、王朝与现代国际法，以及全球治理；

・ “国家与社会”范式在革命中的体现还是无所体现，以及“新国家－旧社会”与“旧国家－新社会”的吊诡及其国别性体现；

・ 有关上述国家，特别是中国革命建国运动及其内在难题的个案研究；

・ 有关上述革命中的人物、著述和思想家的案例研究。

在此敬请阁下莅会，发表研究成果，恭聆教诲，并祈相互启明。会议论文将于会后辑集成册，由清华大学出版社刊行。会议期间的食宿和交通费用由论坛承担。诚请受邀者于2012年6月30日前告知能否出席。如蒙莅临，请于2012年8月31日前告知论文题目，9月30日前将论文电子版发至论坛会务祖，裨便安排议程等。具体住宿和会议地点，将于稍后另行奉知。

CALL FOR PAPERS

Revolution(s): Polity, Rationality, and Modernity

We are delighted to announce a call for papers for the international symposium, “Revolution(s): Polity, Rationality, and Modernity”.

The legitimacy of revolution is a matter of deep contestation and debate in post-revolutionary societies. The Glorious Revolution, the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Chinese Revolution, and the Arab revolution(s) all render ambivalent experiences for humanity; in company with one another are beheaded monarchs, declarations of human rights, utopian dreams and nightmares, mass mobilisations, and challenges to international orders. Revolutions have raised fundamental questions concerning the path of our societies, law, and politics. In light of these questions, the symposium will be structured around nine topics:

・ liberation v. liberty;

・ secularisation and rationalisation;

・ authority, sovereignty, and human rights;

・ enlightenment and raison d’état;

・ liberalism and nationalism in state-building;

・ empire, international public law, and global governance;

・ “new state, old society” v. “old state, new society”;

・ case studies on revolutions;

・ biographies of revolutionaries.

We cordially invite thinkers from around the globe to submit an abstract on any relevant topic by 31 August 2012 and the whole text by 30 September 2012. Abstracts must be submitted by email (as MS Word file) to Dr. Kai Tu at tukai@tsinghua.edu.cn. The Tsinghua Centre for Law and Politics at the Tsinghua University School of Law is funding and organising the symposium, and will be able to cover four nights’ accommodation for invited participants. All papers presented at the symposium will be considered for translation into Chinese and inclusion in a book publication.
